Reflection Prompt: How has my knowledge of technology standards changed after this module? Reflecting on my own use of technology standards in the classroom and personal use.
Description: The ISTE Standards are a necessity for technology to be implemented and used in order to have and efficient and effective impact on students, teachers, and the community at large. These standards serve as a guide for administrators, teachers, and students to foster safe and relevant technological usage for the enrichment of digital age learners.

Impact: Educators now have guidelines for designing effective and efficient instruction that supports learning objectives. No matter what technology is currently available (i.e., internet connections, smartboards, ipads, projectors, computers and software programs) the need to use the technology must have a purpose and objective to aide in the process of meeting the "standards". My school wanted to be amongst the first to have computers in every classroom, and computer labs in every school building in the early 1990s. Without guidelines, students were taken to labs just to learn how to navigate the computers. We wasted a lot of time and money playing on the keyboards. Some students mastered how to remove the keys from the keyboards. But most were merely typing papers. You didn't need high end computers for that. Now, with the standards, School administrators are writing grants to forfill their technological needs, which forces the to really look at the needs and the technology that is in the marketplace. They are making more sensible decisions. Most grant writing is successful, as long as, the can be used to foster collaboration efforts. Thanks to NETS-T, NETS-S, NETS-FT and NETS-TL everyone is more consciencous about the implementation of technology. Best of all, everyone has been able to extend their classrooms beyond the building walls and going global to learn.

Intent: I am pleased to now that ISTE has devised technology standards. This is long overdue. "Technology has forever changed not only what we need to learn, but the way we learn."-NETS

ISTE NETS STANDARDS FOR TEACHERS
"ISTE's NETS for Teachers (NETS•T) are the standards for evaluating the skills and knowledge educators need to teach, work, and learn in an increasingly connected global and digital society.

As technology integration continues to increase in our society, it is paramount that teachers possess the skills and behaviors of digital age professionals. Moving forward, teachers must become comfortable being co-learners with their students and colleagues around the world."

ISTE NETS STANDARDS FOR STUDENTS
"ISTE's NETS for Students (NETS•S) are the standards for evaluating the skills and knowledge students need to learn effectively and live productively in an increasingly global and digital world.

Simply being able to use technology is no longer enough. Today's students need to be able to use technology to analyze, learn, and explore. Digital age skills are vital for preparing students to work, live, and contribute to the social and civic fabric of their communities."
